Roy Schieder Dead at 75

Roy Schieder the human star of the 1975 blockbuster movie Jaws, passed away a few hours ago.

He died at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock. But it's not clear what the cause of death is at this point. An entry at Wikipedia states that he may have died from complications of a staph infection.

I can clearly remember that day in 1975 as an 11-year-old boy when I first saw Jaws with a youth group. Then straight after the movie we went to the beach for a swim.

And that Gulf in South Australia, where we went swimming, was next to another Gulf, where Steven Spielberg filmed the real shark scenes for Jaws.

Ever since that first screening, I have been too scared to swim out into our deep waters. Thanks to Jaws.

Even this summer when my two young kids swam in the water, I made sure they stayed close to shore, especially in the evening. You never know what could be lurking in those peaceful waters. I know that Roy Scheider and Steven Spielberg know what did.

Heath Ledger Dead At 28

Heath Ledger
It's very sad that my first post on this new Entertainment Goss blog is to report that Australian Actor, Heath Ledger, was found dead in a New York Apartment of an apparent drug overdose.

Ledger, an Academy Award nominee, was found naked and unconscious in bed at the apartment in the trendy Manhattan area of SoHo by a housekeeper at 3.35pm EST.

Prescription pills were found strewn around and near his body.

A masseuse arrived at the apartment for an appointemnt and was let in the door by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Ledger's bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom door and found Ledger unconscious.

They attempted to wake him, and when they couldn't they called 911.

When paramedics responded, the actor was in full cardiac arrest. They attempted to perform CPR on him but were unsuccessful.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said they did not suspect foul play.

Our condolences and God's blessing to Michelle Williams and 2 year old daughter Mathilda, as well as the Ledger family from Perth, Australia.
